Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Scheme 2026

The Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Scheme is a flagship initiative of the Government of Assam aimed at increasing female participation in education and reducing the dropout rate among girl students.

Under the scheme, eligible female students studying at the Higher Secondary, Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels in government and provincialized institutions receive monthly financial assistance. This financial support helps students continue their education and reduces the economic burden on their families.

The scheme was initially announced by the Government of Assam in August 2024 and was formally launched on 6 October 2024. The programme has now been continued as Nijut Moina Scheme 2.0 for the academic year 2026.

The application form distribution programme for Nijut Moina Scheme 2.0 commenced on 6 August 2026 in Guwahati. Eligible students can obtain the application form from their respective educational institutions and submit the completed form within the prescribed timeline.

Objectives of Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Asoni

The scheme has been introduced with several important objectives related to female education and social development in Assam. The major objectives are:

  • Encourage girls to pursue higher education and increase female enrollment in educational institutions.
  • Promote continuation of education after matriculation among girl students.
  • Reduce the dropout rate by providing financial assistance to eligible students.
  • Increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education across Assam.

Eligibility Criteria for Nijut Moina Scheme 2026

Students must fulfill the prescribed conditions to receive benefits under Nijut Moina Scheme 2.0. The major eligibility requirements are:

The scheme is applicable only to girl students.

The applicant must be a domiciled resident of Assam.

Eligible students can apply irrespective of their family's economic status.

The student must be enrolled in a Government or Venture/Provincialized educational institution.

Who Is Not Eligible for Nijut Moina Scheme?

Certain categories of students are excluded from receiving benefits under the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Scheme. These include:

  • Daughters of MPs, MLAs and Ministers.
  • Married girl students, except those studying in Postgraduate or B.Ed. courses, subject to the applicable guidelines.
  • Students who have already received benefits under the Pragyan Bharati or Banikantha Kakati Award Scheme.
  • Girl students studying in private colleges, private universities or private schools.
  • In-service B.Ed. students who are already employed while pursuing the B.Ed. course.

Benefits of Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Asoni

Under the scheme, eligible girl students receive monthly financial assistance according to their level of education. The amount is transferred directly to the student's bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Financial assistance is generally provided for a maximum of 10 months in an academic year. No payment is made during certain vacation periods, including June, July, summer vacation, winter break or any other vacation extending beyond one month, as applicable under the scheme guidelines.

How to Apply for Nijut Moina Scheme 2026?

Eligible students can apply for the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Scheme through their respective educational institutions. The application process generally involves the following steps:

  1. Collect the application form from your educational institution or designated distribution centre.
  2. Carefully read the instructions provided in the application form.
  3. Enter your personal, educational and bank account details correctly.
  4. Attach all the required documents along with the completed application form.
  5. Submit the application form to your college, school or institution within the specified deadline.
  6. The Principal/Head of the Institution will verify the information and supporting documents submitted by the student.
  7. After verification, the institution will submit the eligible student data through the prescribed online portal for further processing.
  8. Once the application is approved, the financial assistance will be transferred to the student's registered bank account through DBT.

Application for Subsequent Years

Students generally do not need to submit a fresh application from the second year onwards, subject to the applicable scheme guidelines. A certificate from the Head of the Institution confirming that the student is continuing her studies may be sufficient for continuation of the benefit.
